Youth Club Al Fresco

It’s here, our new Youth Cub from a Van project is ready to go and will be starting in some villages from 17 May. This venture will enable us to run an outdoor youth club for young people in Cambridgeshire communities including games, activities, hot drinks, information and advice, and much more.

Communities planned for this term include Oakington, Chatteris, Haslingfield, Trumpington Meadows, Cottenham and Warboys. Watch this space for days and times to be announced very soon.

A special thank you to the following for their generous grants towards this project: The Pye Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation and The Cole Charitable Trust.

COVID-19 Response – 16 Mar

We continue to be restricted in the services that we are able to offer, and are reviewing what we may be able to provide. However with the announcement of the governments steps we believe we will be able to offer the following at each step:

  • STEP 1 (now): Online babysitting courses, detached youth work (not promoted)
  • STEP 2: As above plus use of youth van* in detached setting (allowing promotion to young people), First Aid Courses for babysitting students.
  • STEP 3: As above plus review of building based youth work in larger venues (bubble sizes to be announced)
  • STEP 4: As above plus review of all building based youth work and review of youth bus use (dependent on social distancing requirements)

Note *: this refers to a new venture with a custom fitted van containing basic outdoor activity equipment, gazebo and facilities for making hot drinks, that could be parked at a recreation ground with youth workers present; allowing young people to gather safely under supervision

Our senior staff are only working on a part-time basis until such time that we can recommence our building and bus based youth work. If you have any questions or need help and advice then please check out our “Helpful Links” page or contact us via email or facebook.

Babysitting Course goes Zooming

With the challenge of COVID, and the lack of contact The Connections Bus Project has been able to have with young people, it felt even more crucial for us to get our successful Babysitting Course up and running on Zoom.

The ten-week course has a full programme teaching and showing young people how to be a safe and confident babysitter! In the classroom, was fun, we were able to have lively discussions, demonstrate practical skills, and most importantly share our fun and laughter over a hot chocolate and donut! Putting this course on Zoom – where we all stare at a screen – was going to be a challenge! Our Group Agreement insists that we ‘have fun’ and ‘encourage each other’. So this is what we set out to do …

Sponsored Bike Ride

On Sunday 4 August, Alan our Project Manager took part in the Prudential RideLondon46 event, here is his story:

The Connections Bus Project was offered places in the 100 mile and 46 mile Prudential RideLondon events and I thought it would be easy to get a cycling enthusiast to take part as a great fundraising opportunity. Little did I know it would be me doing the RideLondon46.
