With the challenge of COVID, and the lack of contact The Connections Bus Project has been able to have with young people, it felt even more crucial for us to get our successful Babysitting Course up and running on Zoom.
The ten-week course has a full programme teaching and showing young people how to be a safe and confident babysitter! In the classroom, was fun, we were able to have lively discussions, demonstrate practical skills, and most importantly share our fun and laughter over a hot chocolate and donut! Putting this course on Zoom – where we all stare at a screen – was going to be a challenge! Our Group Agreement insists that we ‘have fun’ and ‘encourage each other’. So this is what we set out to do …
We continue to be restricted in the services that we are able to offer, and are reviewing what we may be able to provide during the current lockdown period. Follow this link for an overview of services and what needs to be in place for previous services to recommence: Youth Work Options Sept 2020.
Two Babysitting courses are planned to start on 19 January and will continue to be run on Zoom. Detached youth work is currently on hold.
Our senior staff are only working on a part-time basis until such time that we can recommence our building and bus based youth work. If you have any questions or need help and advice then please check out our “Helpful Links” page or contact us via email or facebook.
Following government guidelines and action taken by other local organisations, the Trustees have made the decision to suspend all activities of the charity for the rest of this term (to 3 April).
This includes all youth bus sessions, youth zone sessions and courses across all our venues. Although those on our current courses will be contacted to look at how these can be completed online.
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as things change.
Don’t forget our Helpful-Links page for any advice, support or help you might need. We will also have some activities and ideas to keep you busy at home on our Facebook page. Also if you need a chat or extra support, then do get in touch: Contacts.
On Sunday 4 August, Alan our Project Manager took part in the Prudential RideLondon46 event, here is his story:
The Connections Bus Project was offered places in the 100 mile and 46 mile Prudential RideLondon events and I thought it would be easy to get a cycling enthusiast to take part as a great fundraising opportunity. Little did I know it would be me doing the RideLondon46.
